Comcast Houston joined the Houston 2036, adding Comcast Houston’s VP of External Affairs Toni Beck to the roster of other taskforce members including Bob Harvey (Greater Houston Partnership), Scott McClelland (HEB), Dr. Rhea Lawson (Houston Public Library), Dr. Bettina Beech (University of Houston).

In preparation for Houston’s bicentennial, the Houston 2036 Taskforce is responsible for developing an equitable vision for Houston, designing a social justice plan for realizing that vision and taking a collective action to drive measurable change.

During a May 7, 2022 Taskforce meeting, Comcast Houston’s Director of External Affairs Misha McClure gave taskforce members an inside look at the digital divide in Houston and the extraordinary commitment by Comcast to close the gap.

“This group is a gathering of extraordinary leaders who examine issues, design solutions and take action to build equity for all Houstonians,” McClure said. “After walking the group of leaders through what Digital Equity is, barriers to access, and how Comcast is committed to advancing digital equity, we had a meaningful conversation about Houstonians having equitable access to fully participate in the digital economy.”

McClure introduced members to Comcast’s Project UP– a comprehensive initiative to advance digital equity and help build a future of unlimited possibilities. Backed by a $1 billion commitment to reach tens of millions of people, Project UP encompasses the programs and community partnerships across Comcast, NBCUniversal, and Sky that connect people to the Internet, advance economic mobility, and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers, and creators.
